WELCOME TO Second Grade! Dear Mrs. Bustillos’ Second Grade Parent(s), Welcome to Second Grade at Elvira Elementary School! I know that starting school is a very exciting time for you and your child, and I am delighted to share in that excitement. It is my wish that this school experience be a positive one for both you and your child. I assure you that I will do my best to meet your child’s needs. I look forward to a close association with you as we work together for you child’s learning. I will contact you with comments and concerns and I encourage you to do the same. There will be scheduled conferences in the fall and spring, but additional conferences may be scheduled at any time during the school year when needed. You are also welcome to call the school and leave a message for me to call you. The following is a list of information that will be helpful for you and your child: 1. Supplies It would be very helpful if your child could bring the following supplies within the first week of school:1. Kleenex 2. Pencil Box or a Pencil Pouch 3. Hand Sanitizer 4. Donations of anything you feel would be helpful for the class 2. Discipline Plan In order to guarantee your child and all the students in my classroom the excellent learning climate they deserve, I am utilizing the following discipline plan. My Philosophy: I believe all students can behave appropriately and learn to make wise choices with regard to their behavior in my classroom. I will not allow any student’s behavior to disrupt the teaching and learning that is an ongoing part of the school day. It is a top priority of mine to teach the children to treat others with kindness and respect. My Class Rules: 1. Respect others and their property. 2. Be polite and kind. 3. Keep hands, feet, and objects to yourself. 4. Listen, work quietly, and follow directions. 5. Always raise your hand. If A Student Chooses To Break A Rule: First Offense: Warning Second Offense: Student will lose one recess Third Offense: Parent(s) will be notified by phone or note (Notes sent home must be signed and returned the next day). Fourth Offense: A conference with the student, parent, and teach will be held. Fifth Offense: A conference with the student, parent, teacher, and principal. Rewards: Students will be rewarded for good behavior with LOTS of verbal rewards, prizes, and classroom treats (parties or free time). The Children are encouraged to cooperatively work together, sharing, helping, and respecting their fellow classmates. Individual and group awards will be given throughout the year. 3. Labeled Clothing
Please be sure that your child’s backpack, lunchbox, and outside clothing, (coats, sweaters, hats, etc.) as well as any other item that accompanies him/her to school are
clearly labeled with his/her name. Every year many beautiful items go unclaimed at the end of the year due to no identification. 4. 4. Backpacks To help insure that notes and papers travel safely to and from school, your child should bring a backpack or school/book bag each day. The backpack needs to be large enough to hold the 8 ½ x 11 folder. The backpack and folder will be the main link of communication between school and home; you can expect various newsletters and notes to keep you informed about all that is going on in school, as well as samples of your child’s schoolwork to come home almost daily. PLEASE make sure you empty your child’s fofolder and backpack every night. You can help your child establish responsibility for his/her materials by jointly going through the papers each day. 5. Homework In order to begin establishing good work-study habits, children will have homework four times a week. You can expect homework to be in your child’s backpack Monday thru Thursday. Ask your child to explain the homework to you; I hope you will take the time to work with him/her on these assignments. Homework is usually due the following day after it is sent home. Homework is an important part of responsibility training, and will help prepare your child for his/her future years in school. It is not an option – all children are expected to complete the assignment and turn it in on time. 5. Transportation Please make sure that I know how your child is to go home. PLEASE let me know if there are any changes in your child’s normal transportation routine by either calling the school office or sending me a written note. If there is no notification, I cannot allow a child to go home by a different means and he/she will follow his/her usual routine. I’m sure you can understand the importance of the safety issues involved with this policy. 6. Birthdays Birthdays are an important part of your children’s lives. If you would like to send a treat for the class on your child’s birthday, you may do so. However, these treats need to be a healthy snack. Due to changes in the law, we are no longer aloud to give the children sweets (ex. cupcakes). Please bring the healthy snacks during our scheduled lunch time 11:20 to 12:00. If you would, please contact me ahead of time. Please do not send birthday invitations to school unless ALL the boys or ALL the girls are invited. It is very important in the education of your child that we work together as a team to support the learning (socially, as well as academically) that is taking place in second grade this year. Se que empezar la escuela es un momento muy emocionante para usted y su hijo, y estoy muy feliz de compartir esta emoción. Es mi deseo que esta experiencia escolar sea positiva para usted y su hijo. Plan de Disciplina Para poder garantizarles a su hijo y a todos los estudiantes de mi clase un clima de aprendizaje excelente que ellos merecen, voy a utilizar el siguiente plan de disciplina. Mi Filosofía:Yo creo que todos los estudiantes pueden comportarse apropiadamente y aprender, haciendo decisiones inteligentes con respecto a su comportamiento en mi salón de clase. No voy a permitir ningún comportamiento de los estudiantes que distraiga la enseñanza y el aprendizaje que se esta dando como parte del día de escuela. Es prioridad para mi enseñar a los niños a tratarse con respeto y buena manera. Mis reglas en Clase: 1. Respetar a otros y su propiedad. 2. Ser amable y respetuoso. 3. Mantener las manos, pies y objetos contigo. 4. Escuchar, trabajar en silencio y seguir instrucciones. 5. Siempre levantar su mano. Si un Estudiante Decide Romper una Regla: Primera ofensa: Advertencia Segunda Ofensa: El estudiante perderá un recesoTercera Ofensa: Se les notificara a los padres por teléfono o por medio de una nota (las notas enviadas a casa deben de ser firmadas y regresadas el siguiente día). Cuarta Ofensa: Se hará una conferencia con el estudiante, papas y la maestra Quinta Ofensa: Se hará una conferencia con el estudiante, papas, maestro y el director. Reconocimientos:Los estudiantes van a ser reconocidos por su buen comportamiento con MUCHOS reconocimientos verbales, premios y recompensas en el salón de clase (fiestas o tiempo libre). Los niños son animados a cooperar trabajando juntos, compartiendo, ayudando y respetando a sus compañeros de clase. Se les darán reconocimientos individuales o en grupo durante el año. 3. Ropa marcadasPor favor asegúrese que las mochilas, loncheras, y ropa como chaquetas, suéteres, gorras, o cualquier otro artículo que traiga a la escuela, tengan claramente el nombre de su hijo. Cada año muchos artículos bonitos y en buen estado no son reclamados al final del año porque no los pueden identificar. 4. MochilasPara asegurarnos que las notas y papeles vayan seguras de la escuela, su hijo debe traer una mochila todos los días. La mochila necesita estar suficientemente grande para traer un fólder de 81/2 x 11. La mochila y el fólder van a ser el principal lazo de comunicación entre la escuela y la casa, puede esperar varios periódicos y notas para mantenerlo informado sobre todo lo que esta sucediendo en la escuela, así como también llegaran diariamente a su casa ejemplos de los trabajos que su hijo hace en la escuela. POR FAVOR asegúrese de vaciar el fólder y la mochila de su hijo todas las noches. Usted puede ayudar a su hijo a establecer una responsabilidad de sus materiales viendo los papeles gustosamente con él todos los días. 5. Tarea Para establecer un buen hábito de trabajo-estudio, los niños van a tener tarea cuatro veces a la semana. Usted puede esperar que la tarea de su hijo este en su mochila de Lunes a Jueves. Pregunte a su hijo que le explique la tarea; espero que usted se tome el tiempo para trabajar con él en esta asignación. La tarea usualmente se regresa el siguiente día que se envía a casa. La tarea es una parte importante de entrenamiento en responsabilidad, y le ayudara a su hijo a prepararse en los años escolares del futuro. No es una opción- todos los niños deben completar y regresar la tarea a tiempo. 5. TransportaciónPor favor asegúrese que yo sepa como su hijo se va a ir a su casa. POR FAVOR déjeme saber si hay algún cambio en la rutina normal de transportación de su hijo llamándome a la oficina de la escuela o enviándome una nota por escrito. Si no hay notificación, no puedo permitir a su hijo que se valla a casa de diferente manera y ella/el tendrá que usar su rutina normal. Estoy segura que usted puede entender la importancia de algún problema de seguridad que se pueda ocasionar por esta póliza. 6. CumpleañosLos cumpleaños son una parte importante en la vida de los niños. Si le gustaría enviar algo para la clase en el día del cumpleaños de su hijo, lo puede hacer. Lo que traiga debe de ser aperitivos saludables. Por los cambios en la ley ya no nos permiten darles a los niños cosas dulces (como los panecitos). Por favor traiga aperitivos saludables durante nuestro tiempo de almuerzo que es 11:20 a 12:00. Si lo va a hacer, por favor contácteme con tiempo. Por favor no envié invitaciones de cumpleaños a la escuela al menos que TODOS los niños y TODAS las niñas estén invitados. Es muy importante en la educación de su hijo que trabajemos juntos como equipo para apoyar el aprendizaje (socialmente, así como académicamente) que este tomando en segundo grado en este año. POR FAVOR firme y regrese la porción de abajo y se puede quedar con el resto. Si tiene alguna pregunta por favor siéntase libre de llamarme o escribirme.
